There are many Miami pre cruise hotels to choose from, but maybe that makes it harder? Elizabeth and I like to drive down to Miami the night before our cruise to get a good night’s sleep so that we can start our vacation rested, and refreshed!
Our top two areas to spend the night are MIA, or Miami Airport, and Downtown Miami. Both are near the cruise port (Port Miami), and both offer a wide variety of options.
Hotels we’ve personally stayed at, and recommend:
- Courtyard Inn Miami/West FL Turnpike: This hotel is a little far out if you’re going to be doing a lot of pre-cruise stuff in the city. It’s right off the Florida Turnpike which can be convenient for a night’s stay if you’re coming from the Turnpike and staying at your hotel all night. When you book a regular room they offer free parking for the night you sleep there, and your entire cruise! This is a great and affordable option if you want to leave your car and take an Uber or taxi to the port. It is about a 25 minute drive to the cruise ship pier though, so we recommend using Uber, it’s much more affordable than a taxi. You can see the hotel here.
- Hampton Inn and Suites Miami Airport South Blue Lagoon: This is a Trip Advisor top-rated hotel. It’s in the Miami top 10! It’s right near the airport, you can see the planes coming in from the rooftop hot tub. It has a free breakfast, and a gated parking garage. It’s right across the street from a Publix grocery store, and a Starbucks. There’s even a drug store on the corner. If you want to leave your car at the hotel they do offer cruise packages. You must book a cruise package to get the package though. With the cruise package they offer complimentary parking in their garage for up to two weeks, and one way shuttle to the cruise port. Additional guest pay a fee, and when you get off the ship and need to come back to the hotel you’ll need to take a taxi, or Uber. This hotel is about 10-15 minutes to the port depending on traffic.
- Hilton Downtown Miami: If you click on the hotel name it will take you to our video of our bay view suite. It was a beautiful room with direct views to the port and cruise ships!! If you’re looking for something extra fun and special, this is it! Located in downtown Miami it’s only a mile or so from the cruise port, but you can’t walk there, you will need to take a taxi or Uber. The hotel charges for parking, and does offer valet parking as well. There’s a Publix grocery store and fast food restaurant across the street which is convenient. Downtown hotels are more pricey than airport hotels, but as I mentioned above it’s a nice treat. The Hilton Miami Downtown does offer a cruise package that includes seven nights of parking, and a one way transfer to the cruise port. You can also choose a city view room, or water view room, so make sure you get what you want! We loved the suite because of the floor to ceiling window on every wall. We had the best of both .. city view and port view! We requested the top floor for the best views, and watched the ships come into port the morning of our cruise!
Each time we go to Miami we try to stay at a different hotel. We research ahead of time using TripAdvisor to search reviews, photos from actual guests, and ratings.
